Suggested Calendar
of Events
Here are some suggested activities to get you started in your
planning. You may generate even better ideas, the important
thing is to plan ahead and advertise sufficiently. Once your
calendar is in place, send it to the newspapers, radio and TV
stations. Also post in prominent places, such as community bulletin
boards etc., post in your organization's newsletter, website,
intranet, etc |
Tuesday - May 6
National Nurses Recognition Day |
Plan a Dinner to Recognize Outstanding Local
Nurses.
Send individual nurses flowers, gifts, cards, etc.
Hold a reception for non-member nurses in your community |
| Wednesday - May 7 |
Honor Nurses in Hands on Patient Care.
(This includes any nurse who has direct contact with patients:
staff
nurses in hospitals, office nurses, home care/hospice nurses/ARNPs
school nurses' etc.) |
| Thursday - May 8 |
Honor Nurses who Teach.
Honor nurses in Nursing Education in nursing schools, in hospital
staff development and patient education, community education,
etc.

| Friday - May 9 |
Plan an event to educate the public about
nursing. Examples are:
*Health Fairs or other health screenings.
*Distribute brochures such as "Every Patient Deserves a
Registered
Nurse".
*Hold a press conference or get some time on a radio or TV talk
show.
*Write letters to the editors of your organization newsletter,
local
newspapers, etc. |

Pamper a Nurse/Pamper Yourself Day.
This is a day to get a massage or a makeover or let someone
do
something special for you. |
| Sunday - May 11 |
Honor Nurse Administrators/Nursing Leaders.
Hold an "Appreciation Reception" for your non-nursing
colleagues to
promote collaboration. |
Saturday - May 12
Nightingale's Birthday |
Honor the Past and the Future.
Hold a joint function for retired nurses and students, call
it a birthday
celebration or birthday party for Florence Nightingale. |
