Nurses as Planetary Advocates
Special Earth Day Webinar hosted by the Public Health SIG
Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at 5pm ET (4pm CT)
Celebrate Earth Day by joining us for a powerful and timely conversation on the deep connections between our changing environment and the health of our communities. As climate events grow in frequency and intensity, the role of nurses and public health professionals in responding, educating, and advocating becomes more critical than ever.
Deborah Hogan, MPH, BSN, RN, will explore the rising impacts of climate breakdown—from air quality to disease outbreaks—and highlight actionable ways nurses can stay informed and make a difference.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe the Impact of Environmental Changes on Our Planet
- Discuss the Health Effects of Climate Breakdown
- Explore Resources for Ongoing Climate & Health Education
Deborah Hogan, MPH, BSN, RN
After receiving her nursing diploma at Mastin School of Nursing in Mobile, Alabama, Debbie Hogan received her BSN at the Medical College of Georgia and her Masters in Public Health from Tulane School of Public Health. With her MPH, she has worked as a public health nurse in several states, coming to work in the public health field in Florida for the last twenty-five years. She retired as the Immunization Program Manager at the Department of Health, Palm Beach County in 2018.
She learned initially about the environmental effects on health during her years working in public health. With global warming, these health effects have dramatically increased. It is imperative that nurses who are at the frontline of patient care must be informed and prepared to deal with these health effects on our population.
As an active member of the Florida Nurses Association, she is currently serving on the FNA Board as the Vice President. Debbie has also taken an active role in providing numerous “Climate Change” educational programs through the Florida Nurses Association.
