Friday, March 5, 2021   (0 Comments)

One week down- eight to go in regular session. Here are some of the bills that the two chambers will consider in the coming week:

  • On Monday, in the House Health Care Appropriations Subcommittee, HB 2133 Nurse-Family Partnership Implementation Funding will be heard in a block calendar. This is a new procedure used to get appropriations bill in the proper posture for budget conferencing. This means all the bills on the calendar will be voted for in one big block.
  • On Tuesday the Senate Education Committee will hear SB 532 Workforce Education by Senator Burgess. The meeting begins at 3:30 p.m.

Other issues moving through the process:

  • The House Environment, Agriculture & Flooding Subcommittee will hear one of the Speakers priorities this session, EAF1 Statewide Flooding and Sea Level Rise Resilience. This bill is a committee bill, and once passed out of committee will be given a new bill number.

Cheers to you…

Wednesday, March 10th is Senator Broxson’s 72nd birthday.

This week in the House of Representative’s will be all about getting budget bills in the proper posture. The House has a rule that in order to be included in the budget, all non-recurring budget requests must file a “budget bill” and must be heard in at least one committee of reference. This allows them to be considered for inclusion in the drafting of the budget. House Appropriation committees will have two weeks to hear these bills before they plan to put out their chambers proposed budgets.
