BROWARD COUNTY COMMISSION

WHEREAS, National Nurses Week was established in 1974, to celebrate the nursing profession and recognize the contributions that nurses and nursing make to the community; and

WHEREAS, the depth and breadth of the nursing profession meets the emerging health care needs of the American population in a wide range of settings; and

WHEREAS, the demand for nursing services will be greater than ever because of the aging of the American population, the continuing expansion of life-sustaining technologies, and the explosive growth of home health care services; and

WHEREAS, more qualified nurses will be needed in the future to meet the increasingly complex needs of health care consumers in this community; and

WHEREAS, the cost-effective, safe, and quality health care services provided by nurses will become an important component of the health care delivery system in the future; and

WHEREAS, we recognize and honor the work of all nurses - those on the frontline and those in every setting - whose contributions have been made more visible through this challenging past year of the COVID-19 pandemic, and in particular those who have lost their lives to COVID-19; and

WHEREAS, during the COVID-19 pandemic, nurses have played a crucial role in ensuring the health and well-being of Floridians through providing high-quality and personalized care and support with other health care providers, while also preventing the spread of the virus; and

WHEREAS, we owe gratitude to our nursing caregivers and special recognition to the many who work tirelessly to improve and maintain physical and mental health; and

WHEREAS, Broward County recognizes the Florida Nurses Association for its contributions to our community, NOW, THEREFORE, 

BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF BROWARD COUNTY, FLORIDA:

That the Board hereby designates the week of May 6 – May 12, 2021, as “NATIONAL NURSES WEEK” in Broward County, Florida, and asks that all residents of Broward County join in honoring all nurses and celebrate their accomplishments and efforts to improve our health care system and show our appreciation for Broward County Nurses, not just during  this week but at every opportunity throughout the year.
